LAKE DISTRICT 2019
EPISODE 1 – APRIL 25TH 2019
This is Day 1 of the visit to the English Lake District to meet up with Brad & Barb Eide. Brad comes over from Minnesota to visit the Lakes and Dales regularly and a group of various photographers from Flickr arrange to meet up and accompany them both around the area.
This video starts of the trip and features both Mark Waidson and myself getting to the Lakes late on a Wednesday evening after finishing work, doing some night time photography at Castlerigg Stone Circle and then starting the day at the side of Derwentwater to capture the sunrise

ISLE of SKYE PHOTOTRIP
DAY 5 – MONDAY – YORKSHIRE DALES, THREE PEAKS AND SOME LIMESTONE
This is Day 5 of the trip up to Skye and we decided to hit a bit of Yorkshire on the way back down. The previous video shows us heading south of the Scottish border, and this starts with us in the B&B having a decent breakfast and then going on to photograph Hardraw Force. ISLE of SKYE PHOTOTRIP
DAY 4 – SLIGACHAN, GLEN BRITTLE AND THEN SOUTH TO YORKSHIRE

We headed off to Glen Brittle and the Fairy Pools as our last Skye location and then headed south to go to Hawes in Yorkshire, which is on Day 5

This is the third day of the trip, which involved us making a late afternoon start due to car issues and heading off to Talisker Bay. we finished the day by going off into Portree for a curry.

DAY 2 – OFF TO SOMEWHERE ON SKYE

It was a 5 day trip over a long weekend, and typical of Geoff and Mark, not a day was wasted, or photo opportunity passed. This is the second day of the trip, which involved the four of us rising at about 7am, (after going to bed at 3am) to grab a sunrise shot on the Cuillin Mountains. A number of other locations were also included such as Loch Harport and Neist Point.

DAY 1 – THE LONG ROAD TO SKYE

It was a 5 day trip over a long weekend, and typical of Geoff and Mark, not a day was wasted, or photo opportunity passed. This is the first day of the trip, which involved Mark and Geoff driving up to the North West from Worcestershire to meet Pete and me at 6am. They were up at 2am! After our rendezvous, just off the M6, we drove up to the top of Ullswater to grab a sunrise, and from there headed north to Scotland with a couple of stops on the route before finally arriving at our place on Skye at about 10:30pm.

EPISODE 2 – AROUND MALHAM
This is Episode 2 in a series of videos that I am undertaking for Northern Soul Magazine to try and show some of the great natural glories of “The North” of England. One of those natural glories is a wonderful and varied landscape which holds some of England’s highest peaks, deepest lakes and highest waterfalls. Living in northern England, one tends to find that much of what is contained in the press is very London-centric, and over time a feeling develops that anything outside of the M25 orbital motorway is not worth writing about, so Northern Soul magazine developed to cover all aspects of life and culture in the north of England and features some great northern writers, poets, artists, food etc. This second episode is a circular walk around Malham in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and takes in the natural features such as Janet’s Foss, Goredale Scar, Malham Cove and the small village of Malham itself.

NORTHERN SOUL OUTDOORS
EPISODE 1 – CAVES & WATERFALLS
On one of the earlier videos of the Northern Soul Magazine meet up in Manchester I was asked if I could contribute to the magazine. My limited offering is outdoors related stuff and this is the first of several short episodes in which I hope to show the glories of the Northern landscape along with a small circular walk.
This first episode takes in the small market town of Settle and we visit Scaleber Force and force the limestone caves of Attermire Cave and Victoria Cave.

Northern Soul Magazine Meet at Manchester Cathedral – July 2017
This vlog is slightly different from my usual style where I am to be generally found in the Great Outdoors either walking or taking photographs. I had been invited to a meet up that Northern Soul magazine was having for their contributors at Manchester Cathedral in conjunction with Canal St, and with canapΓ©s provided by Grain & Grape (all with a northern theme to them) and drinks provided by Alston Bar & Beef.
Cathy Crabb also read a couple of her superb poems, which had everybody snorting with laughter and plans were also revealed for the Northern Soul 2018 Awards which will be held in November.

24 Hours Photo Shoot in Lake District and Yorkshire Dales
This is a film about an impromptu, after work journey up to the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District. The weather had been great, it was Friday and the weekend was here so I gave Pete Rowbottom a call and we got out to some great locations for sunrise and sunset.

This is a short video for the Ramble & Roast event which was put on by my local pub, The Pack Horse Inn. The event starts at the pub, goes on a short circular local walk and finishes back at the pub with a roast dinner – and a few pints.

Landscape Photography in the Yorkshire Dales
This is a medium length walk from Chapel Le Dale and heading up onto the limestone plateau above Twistleton Scar. The walk was about 7 miles and formed a circuit with some great photo opportunities along the way.

Grasmere Sunrise (Here’s hopin’!) – November 2017
Last week I was up at “Stupid O’Clock” and took an early morning drive to Grasmere. There had been a break in the wet weather predicted and I thought I would try to make the most of it by grabbing some reflections shots and a sunrise. The plans of Mice and Men eh?

Horton in Ribblesdale – Saturday 1st July 2017
Like the other videos contained on this page, this was again done in the “run & gun” style without a tripod to steady the shots. Well, a tripod was used for a timelapse sequence which would be a very difficult thing to do holding the video camera. This was filmed in Horton in Ribblesdale and followed a circular walk of around 6 miles by the flanks of Pen Y Ghent and along the Pennine Way. It takes in some fabulous geological features such as Hunt Pot and Hull Pot.

Langdale – Saturday 1st April 2017
This video was done at the beginning of April 2017 and was done with a view to how quick I could turnaround a film. It was filmed without use of a camera tripod (except for the timelapse clips and a couple of others where we stopped to eat) to try and speed up the production process, as setting up a tripod for every shot on a film really ruins the rhythm of a walk. Steve and Nick, two of my oldest friends feature in it, and it is the first time I have been out with Nick in a long, long time.
We start at the Sticklebarn in Great Langdale and do a circuit up and around Pavey Ark

A Wet Weekend Camping in Langdale & Keswick
Friday 24th to Sunday 26th March 2017
This video was done at the end of March 2017. My pal Chris and myself were supposed to be going on a wild camp above Grasmere, but the weather was atrocious, so we decided to confine ourselves to to the National Trust campsite in Langdale. The poor weather even started to affect the video cameras which were well covered to protect them from rain. I do hope the next time we go, the weather is better.

Coniston – November 1992
This video was taken in November 1992 and it is a two day adventure above Coniston. It was filmed with Tim and Nick, two friends, and at that time, also work colleagues.
We set off early on a Saturday morning and drove up to Torver, which is south of Coniston. As Tim owned a caravan at the time, we stayed in that. On the Saturday we ascended Coniston Old Man, and in the evening went for some food at The Old Church House Inn. We expected a few beers and plenty of homely grub, but we actually got was a group of raucous students playing some kind of drinking game where the phrase “Mr Chairman” was shouted out too many times.
On the Sunday we went and climbed Wetherlam, and then returned to the caravan to make our way home. It was filmed with a Panasonic NV-MC10 camcorder, which I paid Β£900 for in 1989 – (that is equivalent to Β£2,180 as of 2017). I still have the camcorder in its case, and it still works! Although I’ll stick with my modern HD Panasonic’s as the quality is far better, and they are much lighter too.

Langdale – November 1992
This is a video I put together back in Winter 1992. It was a walk in the Langdales starting at the car park near Stickle Barn. I undertook the walk with two friends and work colleagues (as they were at the time). Nick is the taller one in the cerise Berghaus jacket, and he is largely responsible for introducing me to the delights of the great outdoors – we are heading out again soon. We started by going up Stickle Ghyll, past Stickle Tarn and up Jack’s Rake where I almost fell off near the top – Tim grabbed me and saved the day! We then headed across the summits to Angle Tarn and then down the bridlepath at the side of Rossett Gill into Mickleden and walked along the valley bottom until we got back to Stickle Barn. It was filmed with a Panasonic NV-MC10 camcorder, which I paid Β£900 for in 1989 – (that is equivalent to Β£2,180 as of 2017). I still have the camcorder in its case, and it still works!
